Klaxons - Echoes

Gown up

Echoes

Following on from their album taster this is much more like the kind of single I would have expected from Klaxons. It isn’t really very electro rave though. It has more of an indie guitar band feel to it, although you can hear the keyboards and a few swirls and swooshes. It also doesn’t ever really get going that much. You would not be forgiven for wanting to put on something different by them if you were looking for that adrenalin rush that Klaxons used to be so good at delivering, hold on in there though. There is a certain charm about this single, perhaps in a similar way to how Foals have moved on, there seems to be a more serious edge to Klaxons now. It would appear that are no longer wanting to just be associated with a very youth orientated scene made up by a magazine.

Echoes feels much more like a grown up track in comparison to that of their previous releases. It shows a positive step toward a more mature sound without having lost a sound that feels as though it belongs to them. It can be a very difficult transition to make and it makes me wonder what the rest of the album holds, it makes me quite excited about it actually. Part of me wanted to say originally that this is watered down, but it’s not, it’s just moving forward and what more can you ask of a band who were so popular within a genre that no longer even exists.
