Pendulum - Witchcraft
Bewitching
Witchcraft is the second single to be taken from Pendulum’s number one album Immersion and if you remember how Popped got along with that then you can but only expect further rave reviews for this single too. It starts out with a slow start to build into a drum and bass frenzy, coupled with a fantastic pop feel. It’s something quite a lot of bands are striving to achieve right now, this blend of musical styles, but Pendulum probably carry it off better than most. I’ve read some comments by some die hard Pendulum fans who feel the band have sold out by doing this and are making themselves more commercially appealing in comparison to their harder straightforward Drum and Bass from the past, but really, in my mind it’s a fantastic move forward into exploring and mixing new genres.
If you want something that will get you off your seat and something that will get you moving then this has those motivational qualities in abundance. Because the single takes a little while to get going (it’s a good 45 seconds until the beat kicks in) then it could make it a little difficult for some inexperienced DJs to get it played in the club, but really there should be no excuse, it has everything; beat, bass, lyrics that you can keep up with and sing along to, and of course that all important ingredient that makes you leap and throw your arms around, in a way there's very little choice, I defy you to stand still. There’s little on the album that wouldn’t work as a single in my mind, but this is a great choice for second single and may it do as well as it deserves to.
