Florence and The Machine - Moshi Moshi Singles Club Volume 2
A collection of Moshi Moshi singles from 2008-2010
Moshi Moshi Records are somewhat of a cult record label and there aren’t many of these around anymore so it’s quite an accomplishment. They take on new bands for their Singles Club and release what is usually an artists’ debut single on 7”and in turn often helping the artist on their way to bigger success. In celebration of this Moshi Moshi released their first collection of singles from their Singles Club in April 2008. They now celebrate the last two years of releases with Volume Two of their compilation series.
Kicking off the compilation is none other than Brit award winner Florence And The Machine, who released her debut single A Kiss With A Fist via the Moshi Moshi Singles Club back in 2008. The album documents a whole host of talent and wealth of British and International talent. The album features a wide range of musical sounds that all have an inherently indie sound about them. The Cocknbull Kid’s track I’m Not Sorry is one of the stand out tracks for me, yet it’s almost impossible to pick one track over another as a suitable pick of the bunch.
The album features artists who have already done well, looking through the album there are artists here who have had a plethora of awards and features such as the Guardian single of the week, NME Radar featured artists, Brit Awards…. need I continue? Yet it’s not all about artists who have already succeeded there are artists here who are currently on the cusp of generating a huge following in the UK. For example, The Drums, who’s single Let’s Go Surfing features, and they are one of the bands to watch this year.
This truly eclectic album will take you on a roller coaster ride of the best of Moshi Moshi’s Singles Club collection and you’ll enjoy every sound. From the latin sounds at the beginning of Bless Beats’ Sex In The City with its throbbing synths and grime vocals, to the outstanding mix of pop and electronica on James Yuill’s No Pins Allowed, and the classic indie sound of keyboards and guitars from Casio Kids’ Grønt Iys I Alle Ledd. There is something for everyone and I’m in no doubt it will entice you to check out more bands that might not make it over to the likes of Now That’s What I Call Music.
